Dr Selim Jahan is a renowned economist in New York who has presented several papers of different economic aspects. He is Director in the Bureau of Development Policy of UNDP . In this exclusive interview with VOA Bangla Service , Dr Selim Jahan reviews President Barack Obama's economic plans and directives and says that as an economist he thinks Obama is in the right direction and has adopted right economic policies to overcome the crisis.
He says that over the last 100 days of Obama administration the President has tried to bring in a right kind of reforms in the financial sector. He has taken positive plan to regenerate economic activities in the USA. Dr Selim Jahan also mentions recent G-20 meeting in London where, he says, Obama has reestablished USA's role as the leader of the World Economy.
In answer to another question on Budget deficiency , Dr Selim Jahan says economic activities and development needs to be continued despite the deficit and believes that as Obama said , so does he hope, that the deficit will be nearly over by 2012.
Dr Selim Jahan , however, says that USA needs to do more to alleviate poverty for the poorest people.
