India is in the midst of a severe coal shortage. Five state-owned companies have just formed a new company to explore coal in other countries like Australia, Canada, Mozambique, Indonesia etc.
It will also acquire part-ownership of coal companies abroad. This will ensure a flow of foreign coal to Indian consumers.
