Dr peter J Webster is the Professor , School of Earth & Atmospheric Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology , Atlanta. He is one of the world’s top ranking environmental and meteorological scientists. He is very often termed as a Guru in the probability model of weather forecast which is used worldwide.
In referring to a recent cyclone Aila that hit the east coast of India and Bangladesh causing considerable loss to life and property, Dr Webster says that Bangladesh government relies, to a large extent, on the probability model for their weather and flood forecast.
He said that India , on the other hand was informed two weeks before the cyclone Aila’s arrival but India relied more on their own model which can forecast just three days before the actual arrival of the storm.
