The ruling Awami League on Sunday
requested the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) to return to
Jatiya Sangsad and play its effective role to give democracy an institutional
shape.
BNP did not turn up on Thursday, the first day of the second session of the
ninth Jatiya Sangsad (JS), termed the budget session, over the row on seat
arrangements in the House by Speaker Advocate Abdul Hamid in the front row.
The maiden budget session of the
ninth parliament resumes Monday amid uncertainty over the truant BNP's
participation as the opposition pressed for more front seats while the Speaker
Saturday said 'no' to their plea.
Lawmakers from the BNP-led opposition alliance did not turn up in the House
when parliamentary went into its budget session Thursday, and they still
remained undecided. The session resumes today at 7:30 pm.
In a latest development, Speaker Abdul Hamid Advocate, after inaugurating a
three-day parliamentary orientation programme for women MPs at a city hotel
yesterday, said it is not possible to offer anymore seat to the opposition BNP
in the front row in the House as it was very difficult for him to allocate an
additional one.
