US  Diplomat Robert Blake Arrives in Dhaka


U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Robert O. Blake arrived in Dhaka onSaturday, June 13, for a two day visit to Bangladesh.

This is his first visit to Bangladesh as Assistant Secretary. He will meet with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister Dr. Dipu Moni and Home Affairs Minister Advocate Sahara Khatun, In each of these meetings, the Assistant Secretary will discuss new opportunities for cooperation between the United States and Bangladesh.

Mr Blake met leaders of civil society and other dignitaries on Saturday evening.Later he also held a meeting with Khaleda Zia , the BNP Chairperson and Leader of the main opposition party in Bangladesh.

Ambassador Blake is a career Foreign Service Officer. He entered the Foreign Service in 1985. Prior to serving as Ambassador to Sri Lanka, he held the position of Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi. Ambassador Blake earned a B.A. from Harvard College in 1980 and an M.A. in international relations from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in 1984.
