Dr.Debapriya Bhattacharya a distinguished economist
of Bangladesh and a fellow of a
non-governmental Think Tank Of Dhaka, Center For Policy Dialogue, in this
exclusive interview with VOA Bangla analyzes
the proposed 2009-2010 fiscal year's budget for
Bangladesh which was presented at Bangladesh
Parliament on Thursday the 11th of June by
BD Finance Minister AMA Muhit .
Dr.Bhattacharya discussed the budget allocations for
different sectors and opined that the amount of 350 Billion BDT set
to be invested under the Annual Development Program ( ADP ) may only be
spent successfully if the Government works efficiently in close coordination
and cooperation with the Local Government Bodies, that at present are not in a
very congenial disciplined arrangement with the Parliamentary bodies as well as
the Dhaka administration.
Debapriya Bhattacharya said that the positive aspect of the
proposed budget is the fact that it is in keeping with the manifesto of the
incumbent party reflecting the developments in agricultural and rural
sectors. He said that the budget brings
in provision for the development and expansion of local industry amidst the global
recession. He has welcomed fiscal allocations for power sector.
thinks that the negative aspect of the budget is the factors concerning the
growth and investments. The target is too conservative.
