Former speaker Barrister Jamiruddin
Sircar, former deputy speaker Akhter Hamid Siddiqui and former chief whip
Khondoker Delwar Hossain yesterday did not appear before the Parliamentary
Probe Committee.
Earlier, the probe committee
summoned them to appear before it.
The probe committee in its
Saturday’s meeting charged them for
breaching the privilege of Parliament for their failure to attend the meeting.
Committee Chairman Advocate Fazle
Rabbi Mian told reporters that the committee decided to submit a report before
the House after finalizing its recommendations for taking further action
against them.
Former speaker Barrister
Jamiruddin Sircar told reporters that he did not appear before the meeting as
he was not provided with the documents of corruption allegations brought
against him.
Former deputy speaker Akhter
Hamid Siddiqui in a letter to the committee demanded punishment of the
committee members alleging that their statements tarnished his image.
He raised question about the
legitimacy of the sub-committee and claimed that formation of sub-committee for
investigation was totally illegal. The former speaker also denied the
allegations brought against him.
The Probe Committee meeting was
held at the Sangsad Bhaban with its chairman Fazle Rabbi Mian in the chair.
Meeting sources said the committee
would recommend collecting money which was taken by the three high profile
political leaders violating the rules.
