BJP leader LK Advani has called for the re-introduction of paper ballots in place of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in upcoming local elections if the Election Commission cannot prove that they are tamper-proof.
Election Commissioner SY Qureshi noted earlier that the Commission was positive that the EVMs were safe from tampering and forgery. The EVMs were used for the first time in the 2009 general elections.
