A parliamentary committee criticized the Bangladeshi embassy in Kenya
for not informing the government about the workers in Mauritius.
The Bangladeshi embassy in Kenya, which is accredited to Mauritius, will
be asked to explain why failed to inform the government of the move by
Mauritius to send some 6,000 Bangladeshi workers back home. The
government has demanded a show cause notice from the Bangladeshi embassy
in Kenya.
The committee on expatriate welfare and overseas employment ministry
said embassy officials in Kenya are accountable for their negligence and
that this sort of negligence will not be tolerated.
Anisul Islam Mahmud, a Jatiya Party lawmaker and chairman of the
committee, told reporters after the meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad
Bhaban that they did not receive any information about the recent
situation. He also strongly criticized the embassy officials by saying
that they are responsible for the welfare and interests of these workers
abroad.
