The Father of the Nation’s Family Members’ Security Act
2009, which was provisionally approved on July 6th, was fully
approved by the Cabinet on Monday.
The law entitles surviving members of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s
family to special lifelong security – including protected homes with Special
Security Forces guards.
This law will apply to the families of the current
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana, both daughters of the
assassinated Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Although the law will still need to be passed through Parliament, it will remain
effective until that time as an executive order.
