Mohor Chatterjee Speaks to VOA about the Evolution of the Bangla Language


Mohor Chatterjee is a young writer, poet, and researcher. She is currently researching for her PhD dissertation in Bangla language and literature. Her focus is on the intricacies and style of Bangla used in ancient literature. Ms. Chatterjee is currently researching the ancient Bangla verse “Charapada” and focusing on the stylistic and rhetorical devices used in the text.

Ms. Chatterjee lives in Kolkata, India but recently came to the greater Washington DC area to meet with Bengali writers living in the United States.

In this interview with VOA Bangla Service, Ms. Chatterjee discusses the evolution of the Bangla language through time and literature. She also discusses the themes of her own poetry – including an interesting decision to avoid writing love poems.
