Actor Bibhu  Bhattacharya Speaks to VOA About His Career


Mr. Bibhu Bhattacharya, a film actor since childhood was known as Master Bibhu.

He took the greatest challenge of his acting career when he was selected to play the role of Lalmohan Ganguly (Jatayu)by Mr. Sandip Ray, a film director and the son of celebrated filmmaker Satyajit Ray.

That particular character was portrayed by a legendary actor Santosh Datta in two films made by Satyajit Ray. After the death of Datta, Satyajit refused to make any more film where the character of Lalmohan Ganguly existed. More than three decades after the death of Datta, and many trials by many renowned actors in that role, Bibhu became successful in portraying the character. He did it in his own style. His portrayal was received enthusiastically by the people and set a new trend in the acting in Lalmohan's character. Already, three movies, in which he played the role of Lalmohan, was released and became instant hits.

Bibhu Bhattacharya recently came to America to act in a drama and perform at the North America Bengali Convention that took place this year at San Jose, California.

In an interview with Voice of America, Mr. Bibhu Bhattacharya spoke about his career and how he grew to learn and love acting.
