GRAMEEN brings change in
life. This year President Obama named 16 recipients of the 2009
Presidential Medal of Freedom. America's highest civilian award is
awarded to individuals who make an especially meritorious contribution to the
security or national interests of the US, world peace, cultural or other
significant public/private endeavours. He called them The Agents of Change.
Dr. Mohammed Yunus founder of GRAMEEN Bank is one of the recipients.
Two special programs were aired
on 8/10/ and 8/11 - on GRAMEEN's contribution in US life, with comments
from Vidar Jorgensen, President GRAMEEN America, Shah Nawaz, Vice President
GRAMEEN Bank - New York, Alithia Mendez, staff at New York Office and Habibur
Rahman Choudhury, Branch Manager, GRAMEEN Bank, Nebraska. They
described how the concept of GRAMEEN Bangladesh is changing the life of
poor people, mainly women in the US - who are doing small business.
Among other recipients are Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland,
Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa, Nancy Goodman Brinker - founder of
Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
