Britain wants Bangladesh to rally for fair deal

Britain expects Bangladesh to be vociferous at the upcoming UN climate change meet in Copenhagen, for reaching an ambitious, sustainable, and equitable deal.

Stating that developed countries have the major responsibility for carbon emission resulting in global warming, two UK ministers yesterday said developing countries therefore must act together as a region to claim additional resources.

British Minister for International Development Douglas Alexander, and Energy and Climate Change Minister Ed Miliband made the statements at a media briefing in Radisson Water Garden Hotel in the capital before leaving Bangladesh following a two-day visit.

They met the prime minister and cabinet ministers, and exchanged views with climate change experts about the key ingredients of the desired fair deal to be achieved at Copenhagen, Denmark in December this year. The UK ministers also visited a sandbar island in Sirajganj.
