Following the much awaited speech from President Barack
Obama on his Afghanistan policy and war strategy in Afghanistan , Professor
Shafiqur Rahman , Director , Department of Journalism and Mass Communication
from the University of South Carolina joined us to give his reactions and
reviews on President Obama’s speech.
Professor Rahman said that it was a very well thought
speech and he took reasonable time to unveil his policy on Afghanistan after
considerable discussions both with his commanders in the field, war strategists
at Pentagon and international leaders. He also discussed with US partners and
Allies. He added that the outcome of the Afghan war will determine his
Presidency in future.
President Obama in his speech has certainly clarified the
background of this conflict which initiated with an attack on US by the
terrorists causing more three thousand lives. He also addressed the volatile situation in
Pakistan, saying that success in Afghanistan is "inextricably linked"
to the U.S. partnership with Pakistan.
Professor Shafiq Rahman thinks that
President Obama’s speech will have important impacts both regionally and
internationally. He focused on three essential points, to disrupt and dismantle
Taliban and Al –Qaida , to understand that it is not America’s war alone. He
feels that ultimately Barack Obama will lead the world to peace through concerted
efforts. He also talks about its impact on US politics.
