Senior justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Md Tafazzul was appointed as Chief Justice today. Justice Tafazzul takes over the position of the current Chief Justice MM Ruhul Amin as he is scheduled to go into retirement this month.
As per article 95(1) of the Constitution, President Zillur Rahman appointed him and thereby, Justice Tafazzal superseded Justice Mohammad Fazlul Karim, the senior judge of the Appellate Division.
Justice Tafazzul headed the SC Appellate Division that pronounced the milestone verdict in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman murder case on November 19.
Prior to this, he was the chairman of the enrolment committee of Bangladesh Bar Council and member of the Corporate Law Commission. Currently, he is now the chairman of Bangladesh Judicial Service Commission.
