Golam Sarwar Speaks on Sheikh Hasina’s India Trip


In an interview with VOA, Golam Sarwar, political analyst and editor of Daily Shomokal, speaks about the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina’s trip to India.

Golam Sarwar speaks about the Indira Gandhi Peace Award that has been presented to Sheikh Hasina, the 24th recipient of this award. Upon receiving it, she gave an emotional speech saying that she dedicates it to the poor people of Bangladesh and India. Hasina also said, “we want peace because there is another war to fight – poverty, disease, and ignorance.”

When the journalists asked about her trip, she said it has been very pleasant. On her trip, the Prime Minister visited the graves of Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Rajib Gandhi. She met with Mamata Bannerji and spoke with other political leaders to reach agreements regarding prisoner swap between the countries. She has also inspired a pledge from India to give additional aid for advancement in railway systems and other sectors.

Golam Sarwar tells us that Sheikh Hasina is optimistic about the outcome of the strengthened relationship between the two countries.
