MP Kabir Suman Sings against Party’s Wishes

Trinamool Congress MP Kabir Suman's latest CD, “Chatradharer Gaan” makes a political statement that has angered Mamata Banerjee, the chief of the party. A renowned singer with Maoist sympathies believes that a socio-economic problem like this should not be tackled with the use of force.

At a time like this when Mamata Bannerji is trying to distance her party from the Maoist-led tribal movement in Lalgarh, Kabir Suman composed and sang eight songs that have sent a strong statement in favor of the struggle against the state by the tribals of Lalgarh.

By supporting a group which is engaged in armed conflict with the state and central police forces, Kabir Suman has alarmed his party leader. Despite Mamata Bannjeri’s efforts to smoothen this tense situation, he has defied her openly and reminded the party of his right to compose and sing songs without getting permission from them.

When invited to a press meet by Mamata Bannerji, Kabir Sumon openly refused to attend it, and is strongly confident about sticking to his position. This has left the party in a vulnerable state and the problem still needs to be resolved. Suman may be expelled causing more embarrassment for the party.
