This Week’s Call-In Show: PM Sheikh Hasina’s Visit to India

Sheikh Hasina, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, has returned home from her trip to India. There has been much debate about the amount of success that she has brought for Bangladesh through her trip. Through this Call-In Show the Panelists answer questions and discuss the successes and failures of the much awaited India trip.

The Panelists admit that not much is black and white and we must see the gray spots. India’s main interest to be on good terms with Bangladesh is to receive help to combat terrorism in India. Yet, this establishment of connectivity is beneficial for both countries. It is important to gain each other’s trust again and the Indo-Bangladesh relationship is one step closer to that because of this trip. There are questions about whether India is a big brother to Bangladesh or a big friend, as one of the Panelists mentioned. The goal is to continue the current effort to reach solutions through discussions and treaties. But overall, it seems like a win win situation for both countries.

The Panelists were Dr. Debopriyo Bhattacharya, Special Advisor and Secretary General of UNCTD, Geneva, Ms. Amena Mohsin, Professor of International Relations, University of Dhaka, and Joyonta Ghosal, Bureau Chief of Ananda Bazar, New Delhi.
