Dr. Mizanur Rahman Shelley discusses Sheikh Hasina’s India Visit

Sheikh Hasina, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh has returned from an eventful trip to India. She is optimistic about the outcome of the strengthened relationship between India and Bangladesh. But there has been much debate about how much Bangladesh has really achieved.

In this telephone interview with Masuma Khatun, Dr. Mizanur Rahman Shelley gives some insight about the India trip and discusses issues such as the trade imbalance between the two countries and the dispute over the Tipaimukh Dam in the Manipur Area. They spoke about the benefits that Bangladesh hope to gain, such as help in building railways and lessening the lack of electricity. Some in Bangladesh, especially BNP, the opposition party is suspicious about the prospect of new Indo-Bangladesh treaties because they believe that India will take advantage of Bangladesh. Dr. Mizanur Rahman Shelley gives his opinion on that as well.

Dr. Mizanur Rahman Shelley is the Chairman of Center for Development Research and Chairman of Bangladesh Media Commission. He is also a writer, political analyst, and renowned television talk show personality.
