On Friday, a Bangladeshi farmer was shot to death in Meherpur by the Indian Border Security Force, BSF. He was watering his land around 6 in the morning when he was shot. Only 6 days ago, another Bangladeshi was killed by BSF in Meherpur.
This has resulted in an uproar from human rights organizations around Bangladesh. Odhikar, a human rights organization has said that their statistics show that in 2009 alone, 96 Bangladeshis were killed by BSF. From 2000 till today, 840 Bangladeshis were killed near the border between India and Bangladesh by the Indian Border Security Force. People are calling for an end to this kind of violence.
