Bangladesh Elected Cirdap President


On Monday, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister, Syed Ashraful Islam was elected President of CIRDAP or Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific. He pledged to work earnestly for the betterment of Asia and the Pacific. Iran’s Rural Development Minister, Dr. J Khalegari was elected Vice-President.

Sheikh Hasina, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, will open the two-day conference that will begin on Wednesday. United Nations officials from different agencies will also attend. The countries that are part of the Dhaka based group are, Bangladesh, Australia, Iran, Philippines, Bhutan, Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Fiji, and Papua New Guinea.
