In an exclusive interview with VOA, environmental scientist Dr. Atiq Rahman speaks about environmental problems and climate change issues including the impact of the Copenhagen Climate Change Summit. He discusses the problems faced by Bangladesh, other South Asian countries, and the world in general and how people should prepare to combat the effects of global warming.
Mr. Atiq Rahman also speaks about the role of the United States, China, and other influential countries and their approach to face the global challenge in this regard. Countries like the Maldives will eventually be under water and they have already started the evacuation preparations. Bangladesh, especially its southern states, will face the same kind of problems and Bangladeshis need to be aware and in turn, spread awareness.
Dr. Atiq Rahman is an environmental scientist and Executive Director at the Center for Advanced Studies. He has been named one of the recipients of the UNEP “Champion of the Earth 2008” Award. He is also a co-author of the Nobel Prize winning IPCC report on climate change.
