Khaleda Zia, the Chairperson of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), the main opposition party, called on the media to play its democratic role. In a press conference with editors and senior journalists on Monday, she said that they are going back to the Parliament, but that is not enough. Their presence in the Parliament will not solve the problem. The media has to be allowed to play its role.
Khaleda Zia said that the current Awami-League led government does not want BNP to go to Parliament. As soon as BNP decided to go back, Sheikh Hasina’s party started making negative remarks about her party. She said that the government has caused fear in journalists that prevent them to tell the truth. The media needs to be given more liberty if the country wants to advance.
