BNP Announces Protest Rally

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), the main opposition party in Bangladesh, will hold a rally in Dhaka on the 22nd of February in order to protest Thursday's "police attack" on their previous protest procession. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the senior Joint Secretary General, announced their plans at a press briefing on Friday morning.

On Thursday, six BNP activists have been arrested from a procession after the rally at Bijoynogor in Dhaka. The police say that the protestors had a clash with them as they damaged vehicles on the road. After 30 minutes of chase, the people who were rioting dispersed. But BNP says that their rally was of a peaceful nature yet the police attacked them when they were returning from the Muktangan rally. They believe that the Awami-League led government is trying to wipe out the name of Ziaur Rahman, whose widow is BNP Chairperson, Khaleda Zia.

On Monday the cabinet decided that the name of the Zia International Airport in Dhaka will be changed to Hazrat Shahjalal Airport.
