Bangladesh Hikes Up Electricity Prices


On Tuesday Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission made the announcement that the government has hiked electricity prices up by 4 to 7.6 percent for household consumers. The new regulation will be effective from the 1st of March.

Syed Yusuf Hossain, Chairman of Bangladesh Energy Regulation Commission (BERC) announced the price hike at a press conference in his office in Dhaka. He said that BERC decided to increase the power tariffs of four companies – Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (Desco), West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited (WZPDC), and Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC).

However, the electricity price for agricultural use will remain the same – 1.93 taka per unit.
