Today’s Hello Washington show focused on the situation in Chittagong hill tracts in the aftermath of the recent violence between the tribal and non-tribal people that left 4 dead and over one hundred injured.
The callers asked questions about the settlers and the accusations against them of inflicting abuse on the minority tribal people.The panelists discussed the presence of the army and attempted to get to the heart of the problem that has caused tension in the area. They agreed and often disagreed as they offered solutions to this ongoing conflict.
The panelists were Retired Major General Syed Mohammad Ibrahim, chief of the newly founded political party – “Kalyan” Party, Professor Asif Nazrul, law professor at Dhaka University, and Professor Amena Mohsin, professor of international relations at Dhaka University and author of “The Chittagong Hill Tracts, Bangladesh: On the Difficult Road to Peace.”
