At least 50 potato farmers were injured after police tried to break up a demonstration in Rangpur on Friday. The farmers are demanding adequate storage facilities for the potato that they are producing. They laid siege on the Dhaka-Rangpur Highway for about five hours in the morning from 5.00am.
The potato farmers claim that they have been waiting with potatoes in front of the storehouse since Wednesday night. Cold storage manager Mostafizur Rahman said they stopped storing potatoes when the amount exceeded the capacity of their storage.
