Bangladesh Cracks Down on Illegal VoIP Operations

The government of Bangladesh has started to crack down against businesses with illegal VoIP operations. The Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission has evidence of illegal use of Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) operations by some companies.

In less than a week, Bangladesh has suspended operations of three private phone operators for running unlicensed phone services. The Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission closed the offices of Ranks Telecom Ltd or RanksTel licensed in 2004, WorldTel Bangladesh Ltd running since 2000, and Dhaka Phone, another PSTN operator. Several top officials of these companies have also been arrested.
