The government of Bangladesh has changed the Director General of BDR (Bangladesh Rifles), Bangladesh border security force. Major General Rafiqul Islam, chief of Bangladesh Ansar and VDP, has been made the Director General of BDR.
Rafiqul Islam will replace Major General Mainul Islam who was appointed as the head of BDR after his predecessor Major General Shakil Ahmed was killed in the bloody mutiny in February of last year. During the rebellion in Pilkhana, more than 70 people including 57 army officials were killed.
All around the country, special BDR courts are hearing mutiny cases. Two special BDR courts in Panchagarh and Thakurgaon have given their verdicts earlier this month. Four others have set dates for the verdicts.
