On Thursday, West Bengal celebrated the first day of the Bengali New Year. Through much colorful festivities, West Bengal welcomed Baishakh, the first month of the year.
Bengalis in West Bengal started the New Year by worshipping Lord Ganesha and Laxmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity. Many wore new clothes and prepared various kinds of cuisine for family and friends including homemade sweets. Every one greeted each other saying “Shubho Noboborsho” – Happy New Year.
On this festive occasion, the Secretary of State and other politicians wished a happy new year to all Bengalis around the world.
