The ruling Awami League (AL) and the major opposition Bangladesh Nationalists Party (BNP) have blamed each other for violating electrical norms prior to a by-election in Bhola -3 constituency .

The supporters of the candidates of both parties are alleged to have attacked each other during tense campaign. Awami League accuses BNP for trying to find an excuse to boycott an election for a candidate who the BNP leadership does not support . The BNP on the other hand claims that this will be a test case in election and they refuted the allegation that they would boycott the by-election.

The candidates from both parties complained to the election commissioner Sahul Hussain that their supporters were being intimidated. Hussain sought sincere cooperation from both candidates but declined BNP’s demand to deploy army during the election. He said that the police and the RAB will be further strengthened in the area to ensure that law and order situation does not deteriorate.
