Opposition Walked Out Twice From Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad - 2002-11-20

Prime Minister Khaleda Zia told the Jatiya Sangsad that her government had launched the anti-crime crackdown involving the army, police, BDR and Ansar as the police alone cannot ensure public security because of their limited manpower.

The Awami League twice walked out of the Jatiya Sangsad on Wednesday. The main opposition staged the first walkout only 15 minutes into the proceedings when its MPs were not given the floor to raise supplementary questions during the prime minister's question time. The AL lawmakers rejoined the session after the prime minister's question time was over but walked out again when the Speaker denied them enough time to speak on their notices. Saber Hossain Chowdhury, political secretary to Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, was freed yesterday from the Kashimpur Central Jail in Gazipur after a month-long detention.

The Bangladesh mission in Kolkata has requested the West Bengal government to hand over the two top criminals,Liaquat Hussain and Arman Khan, arrested in Kolkata last Saturday.
