Two Palestinians were killed Sunday when Israeli forces raided the town of Beit Lahia in the northern Gaza strip.
Israeli troops backed by at least 25 tanks were reported to have raided the town, destroying homes of suspected members of the militant groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad.
One of the dead Palestinians was an elderly man whose body was found in the rubble of one of the destroyed houses. He was identified as the father of an Islamic Jihad activist.
Later Sunday, Israeli helicopters fired missiles on a car east of Gaza City, wounding several people.
Islamic Jihad said the missiles were intended to kill one of its military commanders, but he escaped unhurt.
