A prominent Leader of the Opposition Awami League and former Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed has been released from Kushtia jail. He was arrested on several charges by the present government. The High Court has ordered his release but he was again arrested on Special Power Act. He was freed three days after the High Court declared his detention illegal.
In another development opposition Awami League seem to bagging good number of wins in local election. AL-backed Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy was unofficially declared elected chairman of Narayanganj municipality on Thursday. The port city took a festive mood yesterday. The winner commissioners brought out colourful processions in the town to celebrate their victory.
The southern part of the town including the DIT Avenue was decorated with thousands of candles, which was the election symbol of Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy.
