The White House says U-S and Kuwaiti investigators are working to determine who was behind today's (Tuesday's) ambush killing of an American civilian near Kuwait City.
A second American was seriously wounded in the attack on a highway near the U-S military's Camp Doha. Kuwaiti authorities say it appears the assailant or assailants may have been waiting in a nearby area, and opened fire on the victims' vehicle as it approached. There were no immediate claims of responsibility.
White House spokesman Ari Fleischer says Mr. Bush's heart goes out to the families affected by the attack.
U-S Ambassador to Kuwait Richard Jones condemned the attack as a terrorist action.
More than 15-thousand U-S troops are in Kuwait, preparing for a possible war against Iraq.
Last November, a Kuwaiti policeman shot and seriously wounded two U-S soldiers on a highway south of Kuwait City. In October, two Kuwaitis attacked a groups of U-S Marines training on an island, killing one Marine and wounding another.
