British police said on Friday they have released six of the nine people arrested during a four-day security crackdown sparked by warnings of possible terrorist attacks. The detainees were freed without charge, but five of them were handed over to the immigration authorities.
Police said they had arrested two men on Thursday at Leeds-Bradford airport in northern England and six near Heathrow airport in London. Yet another man was arrested at Gatwick Airport for carrying a suspected live grenade in his luggage. Meanwhile, authorities evacuated a terminal at Heathrow on Friday because of a suspect package at the facility. Officials reopened the terminal a short time later.
