Pakistan says Al-Qaida Operative Nabbed in Punjab - 2003-03-15


Authorities in Pakistan say they have arrested a suspected al-Qaida terrorist operative in the Punjab provincial capital, Lahore.

Police have identified the suspect as Yassir al-Jazeeri. They say he is wanted by the United States for his alleged connection to terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden.

An F-B-I spokeswoman in Washington said the suspect is not on the bureau's list of most-wanted terrorists. She said no information about the arrest was immediately available today .Computer searches failed to turn up any information about the suspect.

Early this month, Pakistani security forces arrested one of Osama bin Laden's top lieutenants,Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, in a raid near Islamabad. He is in U-S custody at an undisclosed location.
