The main opposition party in Bangladesh : Awami League called a countrywide half- day general strike in order to protest against the BNP-led coalition government's certain activities including offering a government job to an accused in Bangabandhu's Murder & 3rd Novembers Murder case , muffling the voice of opposition members in the parliament and the price hike of daily commodities. Although in general the strike was peaceful , there were incidents of violence in certain places . Govenment offices functioned normally but schools and educational institutions were shut down and very few private vehicles were seen in the major cities.
