India says in the last month it has killed more than 60 alleged separatist militants in Indian Kashmir.
Army Chief General N.C. Vij said Wednesday that the rebels had crossed into Indian territory from Pakistani-controlled Kashmir. He said security forces have also eliminated 90 terrorist hideouts in the Doda, Punch and Rajauri districts.
Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf says his country has done all it can do to stop the cross-border infiltration.
In New Delhi, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said that India and Pakistan could jointly monitor the line of control. Dismissing Pakistani calls for international monitors, he said the two countries know the terrain best. But the spokesman added the two sides must first develop a significant level of trust.
