Secretary of State Colin Powell will visit Bangladesh next week as part of a three-nation trip to Asia and the Middle East.
Mr. Powell will arrive in Dhaka Thursday after attending a regional meeting in Cambodia of ASEAN, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
A statement from the U-S embassy, published in Dhaka newspapers Saturday, praised Bangladesh as a voice of moderation and a steadfast partner in the war on terrorism. It also lauded overwhelmingly Muslim Bangladesh for making solid progress in building democratic institutions.
Bangladesh Foreign Minister Morshed Khan told reporters that Mr. Powell will meet with Bangladesh Prime Ministrer Khalida Zia, and he said reconstruction work in Iraq and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict will be among the topics discussed.
