Business leaders and economic experts of Bangladesh welcome the agreement reached at SAARC summit regarding South Asia Free Trade Agreement (SAFTA). However, they and leaders of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce said it will not be beneficial for countries with smaller economies like Bangladesh, if the countries with bigger economies do not cooperate with the smaller countries. South Asian states will start breaking down trade barriers from 2006 under the agreement. The agreement envisions a free trade regime among Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
