Humayun Azad, a writer , poet and professor was seriously injured in an attack on him by a group of unknown number of miscreants. Professor Azad was hacked with machete by the attackers whose identities have not been confirmed. However, Dr Azad was being severally criticised by the muslim fundamentalists for his recently written novel " Pak Sar Zamin Shad Baad...." . In this novel Humayun Azad was critical of the increasing dominance of fundamentalism in Bangladesh. He also had warned previously that he is under threat. People from different walks of life have condemned this attack and has expressed their fear that freedom of expression in Bangladesh is gradually waning.
