Book Review: Making of a Nation, Bangladesh: An Economist's Tale - 2004-03-22

In the book Making of a nation, Harvard educated Economics Professor Nurul Islam provides a penetrating analysis of the evolving struggle of the Bengalis with Pakistan government’s policies on economic issues that led to the birth of Bangladesh. Dr. Islam who was Deputy Chairman of the first Bangladesh Planning Commission and a former Assistant Director General of United Nations Food & Agricultural Organization also gives an insight into the important landmark economic policy issues during Bangladesh’s formative years. The book also examines in great details of the far reaching implications of the Six Point program of Awami League which was not fully understood by many at that time. Two economists from World Bank, Dr. Hasan Imam and Dr.S.A.Mahmood commented on the book and their remarks are included in the book review.
