Ten Trucks of  Arms  & Ammunitions Seized in Chittagong ,Bangladesh - 2004-04-02


Ten large-size trucks, loaded with about 1,000 boxes of modern and sophisticated small arms and ammunition were seized during unloading from a huge cargo ship and a fishing boat at the jetty of Chittagong Urea Fertiliser Ltd (CUFL) on the east bank of river Karnaphuli in the early hours of Friday.

The arms and ammunition include such types of modern and sophisticated weapons, which are not usually used in Bangladesh. These include Chinese versions of AK-47 rifle, anti-tank rifles, 7.62mm short machine gun (SMG), high-powered explosives, T-69 rocket launchers, 5.56mm automatic SMGs, binoculars, CSMG, magazines, grenades, rocket launchers, and ultra-modern arms of different types and sizes. The list of the seized arms and ammunition could not be prepared till yesterday afternoon. It is learnt that a large cargo carrying engine boat, named MV Khawja and another small-size fishing boat, named MV Amanat anchored at the CUFL jetty at about 10.30 on Thursday night.
