Syria's Interior Ministry says a clash between gunmen and security forces in Damascus has left four people dead.
Officials say two gunmen, a policeman and a civilian were killed in the battle in the capital's diplomatic quarter, which houses the embassies of Britain, Iran and Canada.
The gunfight erupted late Tuesday after a series of explosions rocked the area. Early reports say the blast targeted a U-N building, but officials with the world body said the United Nations no longer keeps offices in the structure.
Britain's Foreign Office says at least some of the fighting occurred near the homes of the British and Iranian ambassadors. But a spokesman said there were no injuries to British embassy staffers and no damage to the embassy itself.
