AL  & Other Opposition Leaders in Bangladesh Meet - 2004-05-16


The main opposition Awami League opened a dialogue with the left on Sunday for a common platform to launch fresh agitations from to oust the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led coalition government. The meeting was held at the Dhanmondi office of AL president Sheikh Hasina ended without chalking out any anti-government programme.

The meeting, attended by leaders of 10 left and social democratic parties, primarily identified the killing of AL lawmaker Ahsanullah Master, law and order downslide, rise of Islamic militants in the north, price spiral of essential commodities, recent arms haul in Chittagong, and passage of the constitution amendment bill as issues to build up anti-government agitations on.
