A Suspected Bangladeshi Link to Al Qaida  is  a Bangladeshi Jama'at Member - 2004-05-27


In a two-way between Washington and Tokyo, a Bangladeshi journalist quoting japanese newspapers says that one of the three Bangladeshis, arrested in Japan in connection with their suspected links with Al Qaida, Mohammad Himu Islam is a member of Jama'at-e-Islam in Bangladesh, one of the partners of the present government in Bangladesh. Police sources say Mohammed Himu Islam frequently spoke with alleged al-Qaida member Lionel Dumont. Mr. Himu was among three Bangladeshi men, a Mali national and an Indian citizen who were arrested Wednesday during raids on 10 locations in Japan.The raids followed news reports that Dumont spent several months in Japan, possibly trying to set up a terrorist cell.
