The Election Commission (EC) yesterday asked ruling alliance candidate MA Mannan to give an undertaking that he will not violate the electoral code of conduct in future in the August 1 parliamentary by-election of Gazipur-2 constituency.
The EC, a quasi judiciary body, delivered the judgement rejecting Mannan's clarification on the allegation of violating electoral rules, which the Electoral Inquiry Committee (EIC) found true and sent a report to the EC.
Allegations were raised against Mannan that he recently delivered political speech and sought vote at a meeting of health officials of Gazipur district, which was organised at Mannan's direction.
