Bangladesh Bomb Blast Kills Opposition Party Supporter - 2004-08-08

One man has now died, following a bomb blast late Saturday in the northeastern Bangladeshi town of Sylhet.

The victim, a supporter of the opposition Awami League - was one of at least 30 people injured when a bomb exploded in a hotel parking lot. It went off shortly after the town's mayor got into his car. He was not hurt.

The Awami League-backed mayor, Badruddin Kamran, told reporters he was the apparent target and that he had received death threats.

No one has claimed responsibility for the blast.

Last Thursday, a pair of bombs in Sylhet killed one person. Yet another blast last May killed three people.
